M.I.A.

I had made this at the beginning of the summer as a surprise for my friend (Angie) who is living over in China. I never posted before because I had wanted her to be the first to see it....buuuuut it appears to have disappeared into the abyss of China's postal system. So here it is for everyone to behold...and maybe it'll turn up somewhere, some day.

Filthy Koalas!

Meet DJ Joe 'Filthy' Barrs, a resident Dj down at The Met for Radio Fridays and at the Bayside Lounge on Sundays.

And here is a little bit of the process work going into it

Thumbnails for composition

The final base sketch and inked version before laying the colours on.

Overall this was a fun one to paint, I love getting to use lots of colour! He really wanted something 'off the hook' and a little crazy, him in a nutshell (note the koala). Check out his blog here to keep updated on when/where he's playing next!

Play that funky music white boy

Watercolour, ink on illustration board

Another little caricature for your viewing pleasure. This is my good friend Tyler Martens, known to the electronic music world as Stickybuds. Check him out on his myspace or his new mixes hurr.

Drop text

While on the bus I was thinking of Michaela's grad show piece, the incredibly brightly illustrated 'hype' was inspired to do this little diddy and play around with drop text. I wish masking fluid was more malleable, but in the end I sort of like the rough edges.

I used a little gouache to help these ones, but their crudeness prevailed (as did mine) as the night went on. It's surprising what seems clever and funny in the late hours of the evening, which really isn't the next day.
